Brian Kim and Michel Enamorado were the organizers for the 2024 PrIISM retreat held on Nov 22nd at the Angel Orensanz Foundation in New York City. The retreat brought together leading immunology researchers and trainees for a vibrant day of scientific exchange.

Fostering Collaboration and Innovation at the 1st Annual ADCNI Trainee Retreat

Our 1st Annual ADCNI Trainee Retreat was held this past week at the beautiful Bear Mountain Inn at NY’s Bear Mountain State Park. This was an amazing event where the Artis, Chang, Enamorado, Hu, Kim, Littman, Merad, and Naik labs all came together to share their latest work, exchange ideas, and firm up collaborations. Thanks to all the wonderful trainees from Icahn School of Medicine at Mount SinaiWeill Cornell MedicineNYU Langone Health, and Yale School of Medicine. Special thanks to The Paul G. ADCNI Hosts Inspiring Coffee Chat with NYC High School Science Teachers

Bridging Science and Education: Researchers and Teachers Unite to Inspire the Next Generation

The ADCNI hosted a coffee chat for science teachers from high schools in several NYC underserved communities. Brian and Hongzhen shared about the science and discoveries underway at ADCNI. In an inspiring exchange, the teachers recounted their own experiences, shedding light on the challenges and triumphs of nurturing the next generation of scientists. ADCNI extends its heartfelt gratitude to these dedicated educators for their unwavering commitment and hard work. We eagerly anticipate collaborating to foster the inquisitive minds of tomorrow. A special thanks to Denise Croote, Veronica Szarejko, and Natalia Biscola from the Friedman Brain Institute for their instrumental support in making this event possible.

The ADCNI team attended the 2024 Allen Frontiers Symposium, June 24-26 in Seattle.

Allen Symposium

Brian presented a Risk & Reflection talk. Trainees Zhen Wang, Jack Major and Xu Li, presented three posters.

The community-building, retreat-style program celebrated interaction between Allen Frontier investigators from multiple fields, including Awardees and Allen Institute scientists. The highlight of the event was a picturesque dinner cruise on Lake Washington, offering endless vistas of the majestic Mount Rainier.  Thank you PGAFG for this amazing opportunity!

Congratulations to Zhen Wang, MD, PhD (Kim Lab), on receiving the 2025 Arnold Family Postdoctoral Innovator Award! Dr. Wang’s postdoctoral research focuses on the interactions between peripheral sensory neurons and immune cells and understanding the mechanisms that initiate pain and itch. This prestigious award recognizes his innovative contributions to advancing our understanding of these complex biological processes.

Science Teacher Summer Program

In collaboration with Mount Sinai’s Friedman Brain Institute and Dr. Sam Silverstein at Columbia University, ADCNI is proud to participate in a transformative summer research program for science teachers. Over the course of two consecutive summers, participating teachers will spend seven weeks each summer interning in our cutting-edge scientific laboratories. This hands-on experience provides invaluable exposure to the latest research and methodologies in neuroimmunology allowing educators to bring real-world knowledge back to their classrooms. Brain Fair

ADCNI had the amazing opportunity to attend the International Brain Fair organized by the Friedman Brain Institute at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, where we engaged with public school students in exciting games that explored the connection between the brain and skin. It was a fun and educational experience, where we learned together about the incredible ways our bodies interact, all while promoting science and discovery.
